Strawberry Cocktail Season!

I design, I illustrate, but more importantly... I enjoy drinking fancy drinks. My newest obsession is making cocktails. Since the beginning of May, I've made it my goal to try a new recipe every week. When choosing what to make, I like to keep in mind all the delicious home-grown things that Lancaster County has to offer and use whatever ingredient is most in season. In early June, I experimented with strawberries. The punch pictured above is a simple strawberry lemonade (freshly squeezed lemonade with crushed strawberries stirred in). Unfortunately, the punch was being served at a public event, so I had to make it virgin mix. Obviously, the alcoholic version is much more delicious! I recommend using citron vodka and orange curacao, but a plain vodka also works just fine. Below I listed a few of the strawberry cocktail recipes i've tried this season.

Electric Strawberry Lemonade

1 cup of citron vodka
1/2 cups of orange curacao
4 cups of lemonade
1 cup of hulled strawberries

Serve over ice and garnish with sliced strawberries.

Strawberry Jive Punch

2 cups of gin
10 basil basil leaves
20 mint leaves
I pint of strawberries
3/4 cup of simple syrup
1/4 ounce of lemon juice
1 cup of orange juice

In a mixing bowl, crush the mint, the basil and the strawberries. Drain the liquid remains and discard the rest. Mix with the remainder of the ingredients and serve over ice. Garnish with basil, mint and sliced strawberries.
